Year 2 – First Overnight Adventure

Location: Discovery Bay
Duration: 1 night
Focus: Introduction to residential learning

Year 2 students take their first step into overnight learning, staying locally while building comfort with being away from home.

This experience lays the foundation for all future EdVentures.

Year 3 – Coastal Exploration

Location: Mui Wo
Duration: 1 night
Provider: The Hutong
Focus: Outdoor exposure, rock scrambling, coasteering, ecological studies

Students begin engaging more deeply with Hong Kong’s coastal environment.

Learning Focus

• Coastal ecosystems and biodiversity

• Introductory adventure challenges (rock scrambling)

• Environmental awareness

• Personal responsibility in group settings

Year 4 – Water & Wilderness Skills

Location: Sha Tin
Duration: 2 nights
Provider: The Hutong
Focus: Outdoor experiences, including kayaking

The longer residential stay allows students to deepen both outdoor skills and personal resilience.

• Water-based adventure, including kayaking

• Teamwork and communication

• Managing personal belongings and routines

• Building confidence and perseverance

Year 5 – Challenge & Leadership

Location: Sha Tin
Duration: 3 nights
Provider: The Hutong
Focus: SUP, hiking, raft building, outdoor problem-solving

Year 5 marks a significant step up in challenge, leadership and collaboration.

Learning Focus

• Advanced outdoor adventure (SUP, hiking)

• Problem-solving and teamwork (raft building, escape challenges)

• Leadership within peer groups

• Resilience in more demanding environments

Location: Chengdu, China

Duration: 4 days, 3 nights

Provider: The Learning Adventure

Focus: Environmental education, conservation, Chinese culture, and global awareness

The primary expedition programme progression culminates in Year 6 with students’ first international residential expedition. Aligned with curriculum learning around flora, fauna, environments and culture, this experience provides a meaningful capstone to the primary expedition journey.

Learning Focus:  

• Environmental responsibility and conservation through Chengdu’s connection to giant pandas and their natural habitat

• Biodiversity, endangered species and habitat protection

• The role people play in caring for and protecting the environment

• Chinese culture, history and daily life

• Cultural awareness, global citizenship, and understanding of China’s regional and global significance

• Independence, responsibility, resilience and confidence in an international setting
