Drama at Discovery Bay International School is more than just a subject, it offers students meaningful opportunities to grow in confidence, creativity and collaboration. While Drama is part of the curriculum in Primary and in the early years of Secondary, at DBIS we extend these experiences by giving students authentic opportunities to work with professional artists, perform for real audiences and engage in international theatre communities.
Students also have opportunities to learn from visiting professional artists and theatre companies, including groups such as Box House Theatre. Through workshops and performances, students are exposed to professional theatre-making processes and performance styles, developing stagecraft, expressive skills and a deeper understanding of storytelling.
Students also have opportunities to take part in international theatre festivals and workshops. Guided by professional artists, participants develop creativity, performance skills and global perspectives while collaborating with peers from other schools around the world. These experiences celebrate storytelling and empower students to express themselves, take creative risks, and embrace the power of ensemble theatre. Recently, a group of DBIS students participated in an International Schools Theatre Association (ISTA) festival, further enriching their understanding of collaborative and international theatre-making.
Performance is a key part of the drama journey. Primary and Secondary students regularly take part in full-scale school productions, showcasing their talents in acting, singing, dancing, and backstage production roles. With annual and biannual performances forming part of our ongoing programme, students have consistent opportunities to work towards a shared creative goal and experience the excitement and discipline of live theatre.
At DBIS, through workshops, festivals and productions, Drama helps students find their voice, build confidence and experience the magic of storytelling- on stage and beyond.
