How do I sign up to the ECA programme?
Your child can be signed up for an ECA using SchoolsBuddy, the online platform used by the school. The platform lets you browse, register and monitor your child's participation, schedule and attendance for all extracurricular activities.
When and how can students sign up to an ECA?
Information about the upcoming ECA programme will be shared with parents and students at the end of the preceding term.
Parents and Secodary students will be invited to register their interest using the provided link to SchoolsBuddy.
My child wants to change their ECA. What should I do?
If a student wishes to withdraw from a ECA, they must do so by the end of the second week (of the ECA term). After this date, requests will not be considered.
How long are the ECA terms?
ECA terms align with the academic calendar. Term 1 is always the longest, followed by Terms 2 and 3.
In Term 1, ECAs commence in week 3 of the academic year.
In Terms 2 and 3, ECAs commence in week 2.
ECAs always conclude in the penultimate week of the term.
How many ECAs can each student join?
Students are able to join a maximum of two ECAs per term.
However, students could engage in competitive sports training and fixtures and a range of enrichment opportunities in addition to this.
Does the ECA allocation policy (maximum of two ECAs per term) apply to year-long ECA commitments?
The general guideline of one to two ECAs per term remains in place, even for those with a year-long commitment. While students are limited to a maximum of two, additional places may be considered subject to ECA availability and the approval of the ECA leader.
Do paid ECAs count towards the two-ECAs-per-term limit?
No. Paid ECAs do not count towards the maximum of two ECAs per term. You may register for as many paid ECAs as you wish, depending on availability.
Is sports training considered an ECA?
At DBIS, sports training and ECAs are managed separately to the ECA programme, which includes a range of recreational sports opportunities.
Students selected for a school sports team will be automatically added to the relevant training groups in SchoolsBuddy, so a separate sign-up is not required.
For any sports-specific inquiries, please contact the PE department directly.
What's the difference between the ECA program and enrichment opportunities?
The key difference lies in the purpose, structure and commitment level of each programme.
ECAs are designed to provide students with broad, term-based experiences to explore a wide range of interests. These sessions are scheduled weekly, and their facilitation is consistently delivered unless there's an unforeseen interruption.
Enrichment opportunities, however, are separate from the regular ECA programme. They are often linked to prestigious international awards, specialist programmes, competitions and conferences that require a year-long commitment and specific entry criteria. These opportunities are typically managed directly by the organising staff to ensure a high level of expertise and support.
What is the school's ECA attendance policy?
Students are expected to have a 100% attendance record for their ECAs.
If a student is unable to attend a ECA session for any reason, it is expected that they contact their activity leader(s) in advance.
